A hand-knotted Persian area rug. This wool rug features an Afshar tribal design in a palette of rust, vermillion, midnight blue, sapphire and ivory. it begins with three hooked diamond medallions at the center of a vermillion, crenellated inner field outlined in midnight blue with three cruciform extensions at each end. These elements rest on a rust-colored outer field populated with stylized images of flowering plants and trees of life. Framing the field are three borders, including a geometric crab border featuring rosettes over cream. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.

- there is a large tear at one corner; wear throughout; heavy wear/pile loss to extreme of one corner.
