Hand-Knotted Baluch Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Baluch area rug. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of cream, rust, ivory, black and tangerine. It features a vertical row of medallions and geometric motifs joined by vertical striped columns over a cream-colored field. Populating the field are images of four-legged animals, flowering trees, ashik motifs, geometric flowerheads and stylized oak leaves. The field is framed by five wraparound borders, including Baluch-style running dog patterns, a floral meander pattern partly rendered in tangerine, and geometric repeating patterns. Selvedges are single overcast, the rug finishing at each end with cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
