Antique E. Howard & Co. of Boston Banjo Clock
Item Details
An antique E. Howard & Co. of Boston presentation or ‘banjo’ wall clock. The mahogany case has a gilded front with cable details and an ivory painted iron dial with Roman numerals that is inscribed ‘E. Howard & Co., Boston’ and is behind a circular glass door. There are reverse-painted tablets, the upper one featuring an eagle and shield with elaborate scrolls. The lower panel shows a depiction of two sailing ships with the word ‘Hull’ in an oval frame. The battle scene is flanked by large painted torches in gold. The brass eight-day movement is stamped E. ‘Howard & Co. Boston’ and the clock comes with a winding key, brass pendulum, and metal weight. The case finishes with a pendant acorn finial.
