Antique Ladderback Side Chairs, 19th Century
Item Details
A group of two antique ladderback side chairs, 19th century. The first example is constructed from mixed hardwoods and it features an arched crest above a horizontal slat flanked by ball finials and ring-turned stiles. The rush seat is supported by ring-turned legs joined by a double-box stretcher. The second chair is in mixed hardwoods and it has a horizontal, arched crest above two conforming slats flanked by thumbback stiles. The splint-woven seat rises on turned legs joined by a double-box stretcher. Both chairs are unmarked by the maker.

Condition
- both chairs have been refinished but rush seat example retains some remnants of red paint; both with scattered scratches, nicks, and marks; rush seat is later; some small losses/breaks to splint seat; other imperfections as would be expected with age and use.
