Antique Victorian Eastlake Walnut Secretary Bookcase, Late 19th Century

Item Details

An antique Victorian Eastlake walnut secretary bookcase, late 19th century. The four-part case is decorated with burled panels, applied moldings, as well as incised, scrolled-foliate accents. It features a shaped, removable cornice with a central, carved roundel above a two-door, glazed bookcase with four adjustable shelves resting on a cylinder roll with ebonized and brass-applied knobs. The cylinder opens to a fitted desk interior with pigeonholes, drawers, and a pull-out writing surface lined in later, green-blue leather. The writing surface extends over a stack of three long drawers, each of which is fitted with two brass, ring pulls flanking a central, carved escutcheon. The whole piece rises on molded feet ending in later, casters. It is unmarked by the maker.
