Antique Victorian Aesthetic Movement Walnut and Tile-Mounted Bookcase
Item Details
An antique Victorian Aesthetic Movement walnut and tile-mounted bookcase, late 19th century. The case features a rectangular, overhanging top interrupted by three corbel-type brackets along the burled and molded frieze with belted-ball finials and ebonized panels. The outer brackets are incised with foliate motifs while the center is marked with a script ‘T’. Directly below are four rows of two aligned, open shelves, the lower edges of which retain strips of brown leather with brass tacks. The exterior, side panels are applied with simulated, mortise-and-tenon style joints and pegs while the centers are mounted with stylized, floral and foliate ceramic tiles. There are two aligned and dovetailed base drawers with brass, ring pulls and the bookcase rises on a molded base ending in metal, double-wheeled casters. It is unmarked by the maker.
