An antique hand-knotted Persian Malayar rug. This rug features a carmine-red field ornamented with mirrored motifs of flowers, at the center of which is a large medallion showing stylized floral patterning in navy, ivory, apricot, and deep teal. The center field is trimmed by a saw tooth crenelation forming four corner spandrels, each of which shows abstract patterning in coordinating colors. The rug’s unresolved principal border showing repeating floral motifs in red and tangerine with blue accents on a navy field, and is flanked on both sides by identical narrow minor borders in coffee brown and cream. The rug is finished with a single-wrapped selvedge to both sides and a natural warp fringe to both ends.
