A base metal sculpture after German sculpture August Karl Eduard Kiss (1802-1865) titled The Amazon. This work depicts a woman wearing Greco-Roman clothing riding a horse. The horse is being attacked by a lion and the woman raises her hand, which would have held a spear. This piece is not signed or marked by the maker.

Condition

- oxidation around bottom edges of base; oxidation on front edge of base; residue along cat’s back, horse’s head, verso edge of base, and horse’s tail; oxidation on horse’s neck; figure is missing spear.

- measures sculpture on base; base measures 10" W x 3.5" H x 4.5" D.
