The work depicts a woman dancing the fancy shawl dance. This dance is the only women’s dance that does not involve the typical two-step movement. Dancers instead move around the space with vivid twirls and dramatic spins of the colorful ribbons on their regalia, resembling butterflies.
Raised in Cincinnati, Kristiana Yager received her BFA from Wright State University. She works in a variety of mediums including analog photography, printmaking, and oil painting, focusing primarily on figural and landscape subjects. Her work has been exhibited in various local venues including Robert & Elaine Galleries (Dayton, Ohio) and Redtree Art Gallery (Cincinnati, Ohio).
