1892 Epsom Derby Winner Sir Hugo Needlepoint

A needlepoint featuring the 1892 Epsom Derby winner Sir Hugo with jockey. Sir Hugo (1889-1910) was a champion English thoroughbred, who won the Epsom Derby in 1892, his three-year old year. Sir Hugo was a large chestnut colt with a white blaze and not the four white socks illustrated in the needlepoint. His jockey is portrayed in white silks with a blue cap and the two are in the foreground of a landscape. ‘Derby Sir Hugo 1893’ is stitched in grey thread across the bottom. The piece is presented without mat, under glass, in a mahogany stained wooden frame. It is ready to hang with a wire to the verso.

- minor scratches to frame; some wear and discoloration noted to needlepoint; backing paper torn.
