A color engraving with mezzotint detailing titled Le Palefrenier Surveillant by Jean Pierre Jazet (French, 1788-1871) after a painting by Carle Vernet (French, 1758-1836). This print depicts a stable groom sitting in a lofted nook and watching over two horses at the trough. It is titled to the lower center and has the artists’ names to the lower corners. The print is presented behind a French mat and glass in a wood frame with wire to the verso for hanging.
Condition
- image paper is discolored and stained; scratch marks throughout the image area creating image loss; nicks and scratches around the frame; corner joints do not meet evenly.
