A hand-colored engraving on paper by Dutch artist Johannes “Jan” Kip (c.1652-1722) titled Knole the Seat of Tho. Chester Esq. The work depicts a bird’s eye view of a large English country estate with sprawling orchard and forest beyond that leads to a river. It is titled to the upper center with a coat of arms in the middle, and the artist’s name is printed to the lower right corner. The piece is presented behind a layered French mat and glass in a painted gold tone wood frame with a label and wire to the verso for hanging.

Condition

- to Fair; crease running vertically up the center in the image; image paper is discolored; mat area is dirty and stained with foxing evident throughout; nicks and scratches around the frame.
