A pair of engravings on paper after Johann Sadeler (1550-1600) of Christian scenes. Featured is a work titled Christus in Het Voorgeborchte (Christ in the limbo) depicting Christ in limbo rescuing the souls of the righteous who lived before him. Also included is a composition titled Transfiguratie: ‘en in Jezus Christus, Zijn enige Zoon, onze Heer’ (Transfiguration: ‘and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord’), this work depicts Christ revealing his divine power before his disciples Peter, James the Greater, and John. The figures of Moses and the prophet Elijah appear next to him.Both works have in plate Latin inscriptions referencing the biblical scenes. These works are presented behind glass in brown mat and black wood frames. Hanging hardware is present to the verso of the piece.
Condition
- to fair; image papers are discolored, dirty and stained; foxing is prevalent throughout the image area; black tone wood frame showing nicks and scratches around the frame.
