1861 Merrill Type I Breach Loading Black Powder Carbine

A breach loading carbine from the maker J.H.Merrill. This piece is a First Type model that features a brass patch box near the end of the stock and was manufactured during the American Civil War, with both sides being known to use this model. The manufacturing stamp ‘J.H. MERRILL BALTO. PAT. JULY 1856 APL 9. MAY 21-28-81’ is stamped on the forward lock of the hammer and the serial number ‘10758’ stamped on the rear of the hammer. Item located on the main floor.
