Hand-Knotted Persian Kashan Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Kashan rug. This wool rug features a medallion-and-spandrels design in a palette of red, midnight blue-black, cream and azure. It begins with a layered medallion with phases in azure, cream and midnight blue. The medallion rests on a red field with quartered medallions in the corners. Filling these regions are a profusion of palmettes, flowers, leaves and vines. The field is framed by three borders, including a narrow main border featuring a floral herati pattern. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
