A hand-knotted and carved Tibetan area rug. Attributed to Tibetan weavers working from Nepal, this plush wool and silk rug is rendered in gold and shades of gray. It features stylized palmettes, flowers, leaves and vines in gold and grays over an ash-gray field. The field is framed by four borders, two of which are gold with subtle carving, while the main border features a pattern of lacy, alternating shields in ash and gold over charcoal. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with mesh skirts and long wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
