A pair of antique hand-colored engravings on laid paper after listed artist and naturalist François-Nicolas Martinet (French; 1731 – 1800), originating as plates from Buffon’s Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux. Featured are two bird portraits including Le Choucas (western jackdaw) and Femelle du Coq-de-Roche, de Cayenne (female Andean cock-of-the-rock). Each print is titled in plate to the lower margin; one is additionally attributed ‘Martinet’ in plate. They are presented under acrylic glazing and French-style matting in gilt gesso frames, each fitted with hanging wire to the verso. The frame backings include certificate of authenticity labels from Buchanan and Kiguel of Virginia.

- to fair; discoloration, mat burn, foxing and toning to prints and matting; chips, scuffs and wear to frames.
