Hand-Knotted Northwest Persian Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted northwest Persian wool area rug. The carpet has been woven in abrashed shades of tomato, azure, tea, espresso, tangerine, salmon, aqua, black, and ivory. Five hooked diamond pole medallions have been worked in alternating color combinations. Semi-medallions point toward the center from the innermost border to create a field with zig-zag boundaries. The dark blue field is infilled with stylized geometric lobed flower and split leaf devices. The unresolved compound borders incorporate carnation and meander guard bands with a split leaf and diamond primary border. The selvedges have been overcast and there is warp fringe at each end. A cloth tag attached to the underside identifies the rug as having been made in Iran.
