Peter Keil Oil 1992 Painting on Canvas "Picasso IIII"
Item Details
A 1992 oil painting on board very well-listed and prolific contemporary German Neo-Expressionist Peter Robert Keil (Berlin; born 1942), titled Picasso IIII. The painting depicts an expressive face painted in fields of orange, green, and blue with thick black outlines. It is set against a vivid yellow background. The painting is signed and dated in black to the lower right. It is presented in a composite frame with brushed gold tone finish and a hanging wire attached to the verso. The piece is signed, dated, and titled to the verso, where a certificate of authenticity from the artist is attached.
Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miro. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
