A wood engraving on paper titled The Carol Singers, by Scottish artist Iain Macnab (1890-1967), created circa 1930. This black and white woodcut is features a group of singers in the upper part separated from their conductor printed in the lower center. It is presented between two layers of off-white matting and remains unframed. A couple handwritten inscriptions are present to the mat verso.
Artist Iain McNab was the founding principal of the Grosvenor School of Modern Art, where artists Cyril Powers and Sybil Andrews also taught. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art and Heatherley’s School of Art, where he later served as principal. His work has been collected by various institutions including the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Ashmolean Museum, among others.
