Antique Hand-Knotted Chinese Old Peking Accent Rug
Item Details
An antique Chinese Old Peking accent rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of sand, azure, midnight blue, powder blue, ivory and camel. It features a mostly open, sand-colored field with floating design elements, including two butterflies, an abstract cloudband-like motif and the clustered images of a cockatiel, flower and crab. Each corner of the field contains a geometric key scroll rendered in ivory, powder blue and midnight blue, giving it the illusion of three-dimensionality, offset by small vase motifs. The field is framed by compound borders, including a wide main border featuring vases, Chinese key patterns, abstract patterns and other decorative elements. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with ivory wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
