Peter Keil Acrylic Painting on Masonite of Cityscape

Item Details

An 1985 acrylic painting on masonite by very well-listed and prolific contemporary German Neo-Expressionist Peter Robert Keil (Berlin; born 1942). The Expressionist style painting features two sailboats to the foreground, with a city skyline rising behind them. It is rendered in loose gestural brushstrokes and vibrant color. This piece is signed and dated in black to the center of the right side. It is presented without framing.

Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miro. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
