Christ Before Pilate, 1630
Restrike etching on paper
Signed and dated in plate to the lower left

An early-20th-century restrike etching on paper after an original work titled Christ Before Pilate by Rembrandt van Rijn (the Netherlands, 1606 – 1669), dated 1630. Featured is a detailed etching of Jesus being tried before Pontius Pilate. It is presented matted and housed in a black wooden frame beneath protective plastic.

A prolific printmaker, painter, and draughtsmen, Rembrandt van Rijn was an inspired artist during the Baroque period. He created works with intense Chiaroscuro and rejuvenated classical portraiture with his use of movement to convey emotion. Rembrandt’s etchings are extremely detailed and perfectly illustrate his profound observations of the human form. His works are currently on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Frick Collection, New York; the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam; and the National Gallery, London, among many others.
