1833 Thomas Shaw Sterling Silver Vinaigrette

Item Details

An antique sterling silver vinaigrette by Thomas Shaw from 1833. The small box features a hinged lid with a gold plated grille that is also hinged and lifts to reveal a small sponge that would hold the scent. The case is delicately engraved on all sides. Hallmarks include the Birmingham silver mark, TS for the maker, and a letter mark dating the piece to 1833. Thomas Shaw worked as a silversmith from 1818 until his death in 1845 and is noted for creating high quality snuff boxes and vinaigrettes. It comes with a drawstring pouch. The total approximate weight, inclusive of all materials, is 0.355 ozt.
