An abstract watercolor and gouache painting on paper by Martha Fairchild (Pittsburgh, 20th-century). This work features simple polygonal shapes delineated with large loose brushstrokes and vibrant colors. The work is signed to the lower right. Martha Fairchild Shepler was a longtime instructor of graphic design at La Roche College, where she headed the department for 14 years. Mostly known for her printmaking, she was a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and a founder of the Pittsburgh Print Group. She also taught part-time at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, where famed artist Keith Haring was among her students.
