Antique Turner Sauce Boat and Vintage Wedgwood Crimson Jasperware Box
Item Details
A pairing of antique and vintage English dry bodied earthenware. Featured is a late eighteenth century Turner caneware sauce boat with a molded cherub pattern flanked by beaded and egg borders, white glaze to the interior, a large angled handle with foliate accents, and cobalt blue glaze to the edges. It is impressed with ‘Turner’ to the underside and was produced between 1762-1806. It should be noted that Turner was one of the only potters to collaborate with Josiah Wedgwood the first. They perfected together, the method for allowing relief decoration to adhere to the body of a given piece. The Wedgwood jasper trinket box features molded neoclassical figures with foliate and floral borders in cream to the crimson ground. The red color was problematic and is rare as it was only produced for a short amount of time and was discontinued due to the difficulty of crafting acceptable pieces. This box was produced ca. 1910-23 and is impressed with ‘Wedgwood/England/3’ to the underside.
