Large Hand-Knotted Persian Kashan Area Rug
Item Details
A large Persian Kashan area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of sapphire, camel, ruby and midnight blue. It starts with a rounded star medallion with phases in sapphire, camel and midnight blue over a ruby field with deep, layered spandrels. Filling the medallion, field and corners are a riot of crisply rendered flowers, palmettes, foliage and vines, each corner featuring mother-and-daughter botehs. The field is framed by seven borders, including an ornate herati main border featuring palmettes, flowers and vines over midnight blue. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with tan cotton warp fringe. A label on the reverse reads ‘Made in Iran.’
