Vintage Samsonite and Cleghorn Suitcases

A pair of vintage suitcases. The circa 1920 leather suitcase, from M. Cleghorn Co., Trunk & Bag Makers of Edinburgh, Scotland, features a leather shell, top stitched leather trim along the edges and corners of the lid, a leather grip handle, and stamped brass hardware with copper accents. The lid lifts on leather strap hinges to reveal a canvas lined interior with a maker’s label. This pairing also includes a Samsonite 4632 travel case, from Shwayder Bros. of Denver, Colorado, featuring a tan hard shell, painted metal trim, a molded plastic bail handle, and gold tone locking hardware. The hinged lid opens to an upper compartment with a panel cover, over a main compartment with garment straps and a maker’s label.
