W.H. Lizars Hand-Colored Etchings "Hawfinch" and "Bittern"

A pair of hand-colored book plate etchings on paper titled Hawfinch and Bittern by Scottish engraver William Home Lizars (1788-1859). The first depicts a blue-beaked finch perched on a log after a drawing by ‘Stewart’, and the second depicts a bittern on the edge of a pond from Sir William Jardine’s Naturalist’s Library series of books. Both have the title and artists’ names printed to the lower margin and are presented behind light blue mats and glass in gold tone wood frames with wire to the versos for hanging.

Condition

- discoloration and foxing to paper and mats; minor wear to frames.
