1930s–40s Whitman "Classics Series" Children's Books

An assortment of nine volumes from The Classics Series of children’s books from the Whitman Publishing Company of Racine, Wisconsin. Published circa 1935–1944, these hardcover editions of classic books (including some ‘retold’ versions) feature color illustrated dust jackets and black-and-white interior illustrations. Titles include Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women, Anna Sewell’s Black Beauty, Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and more. Also included is a hardcover edition of American Captain by Edison Marshall (New York: Farrar, Straus & Young, 1954).
