WWII USAAF Navigator Type A4 Leather Briefcase and Document Case

A pair of WWII era leather document cases. The WWII USAAF Navigator Type A4 brown leather briefcase, from the Leather Specialty Co. features a top handle, flap front with adjustable clasp closure, leather buckle straps encircling the body, expandable side gussets, and four interior compartments. This type of briefcase, officially titled ‘Case, Navigation, Dead Reckoning, Type A-4’, was issued to American bomber crews to store necessary flight and target paperwork. The smaller leather case, with expanding compartments, is designed to store pencils, pens, small tools and documents and can be hung or attached. A note to one compartment provides a written conjecture of the case’s purpose.
