An antique oil painting on canvas. This 19th century Ecclesiastical scene depicts a moment from the apocryphal Gospel of James with the infant Mary, mother of Jesus, in the arms of her mother Saint Anne while her father, Saint Joachim looks on. Two winged cherub heads overlook the scene, and the infant holds white flowers and is haloed with a crown of stars, while her parents each have thin halo rings above their heads. The work is signed ‘Windhager’ to the lower right and dated to the late 19th century, the exact year obscured by damage to the piece. The work is presented unframed as a stretched canvas.

- canvas relined with repairs; warping to canvas throughout; craquelure to paint, particularly to face of child; tear to canvas through beard and to lower right; discoloration, abrasions and wear throughout; blacklight reveals in-painting throughout particularly to faces and hands; wear to edges; severe water damage and discoloration to verso.
