An 1887 oil painting titled Moonrise in a Romantic Landscape by listed German artist Josef Anton Settegast (1813-1890). This Romantic era painting depicts two figures on a hillside near a Gothic style stone chapel. The artist’s use of dramatic lighting of figures in a majestic natural setting is indicative of the style of the late Romantic era. The work is dated ‘July 26, 1887’ in the lower left corner, and attributed to Settegast on the back of the frame. It is presented in a gold tone wooden frame with carved detail trim. There is a hanging wire mounted to the verso.

- to fair; crease across center of painting; cracks to paint; discoloration and wear to finish of frame; dust accretions throughout; abrasions and nicks to frame; tape to frame at verso.
