An antique oil painting on canvas. This portrait depicts a 19th century woman in both a three-quarters view as she looks over her shoulder and a head-on view with hair curled on the sides. Both depictions are layered over one another and floating in a clouded dusk sky. The piece is painted with attention to detail and fine, almost imperceptible brushstrokes. It is unsigned and presented in a gilt wood and gesso frame with a circular sight edge and ornate floral cartouche molding. The work is wired to the verso for hanging.

Condition

- to Fair; abrasions to painting to upper left and right; some craquelure to paint; blacklight suggests in-painting throughout, particularly to upper left and faces; cracks and chipping throughout frame molding; loss to several sections of molding and finish on frame.
