Astronauts Deke Slayton and Gus Grissom Autographs with 1962 Newspaper Clipping

An autographed newspaper article featuring astronauts Donald ‘Deke’ Slayton and Lieutenant Colonel Virgil Ivan ‘Gus’ Grissom. This article, from the April 14-15, 1962 of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, features a photo of the two before flying from Scott Air Force Base to Florida. Lt. Col. Grissom was the second American in space and the first NASA astronaut to do so. Slayton served as NASA’s first Chief of the Astronaut Office and both were selected as part of the original NASA Project Mercury astronauts. A pencil-signed piece of paper is presented alongside the article clipping.
