Brass Lion Bookends After Antonio Canova

A pair of cast brass bookends modeled after sculptures by Antonio Canova (Italian, 1757-1822). The bookends are based on a pair of lions sculpted in marble by Canova in 1792 for the tomb of Pope Clement XIII in St Peter’s in Rome. The bases of the pieces are hollow. One bears a mark on the side, ‘Antonio Canova 1757-1822’.
