An antique late 19th-century wilderness genre oil painting on canvas by well-listed English painter Clarence Henry Roe (1850 – 1909). The image depicts a deer family pausing at a mountain stream surrounded by large, jagged boulders, fog rolling off slate mountains rising behind them, illuminated in the morning light. Artist signature is signed in pigment to the lower corner. This painting is presented without framing or mounting.

- inpainting over puncture at right side on mountain top in foreground, can see the puncture on verso; craquelure present throughout painting; stretcher marks present along each side of ground; paint missing and wear along edges of canvas; toning and foxing throughout verso of ground.
