An original detail from the Metropole Peace Guard Mural by listed artist Shepard Fairey, dated 2010. This one-of-a-kind work previously took residence on the historic Metropole on Walnut Street in Cincinnati, Ohio. The site is now home to the museum-hotel, 21c. The murals were made to coincide with a traveling exhibition, Supply and Demand, held at the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC). With the artist’s permission, pieces of the mural were removed and preserved to be sold to support the CAC.

Shepard Fairey is one of the most influential and prolific street artists of the 21st century. Fairey is also known for his graphic designs, activism, illustration, and as the founder of OBEY Clothing. Emerging from the skateboarding scene, he first became known for his ‘Andre the Giant Has a Posse’ campaign. This campaign was started while the artist attended the Rhode Island School of Design. Today, his work can be found in site-specific installations and at the Smithsonian, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, and more.
