Dr. Wall Period Worcester "Rich Queens" Tea Caddy and Cover ca. 1765

Item Details

A mid-eighteenth century Dr. Wall period Worcester Rich Queens porcelain tea caddy and cover. The intricately painted piece features Chinese style red flowers with gilt centers that alternate with cobalt blue panels having circular cartouches surrounding matching blossoms. The gilt painting to the blue ground continuing the floral pattern was extremely labor intensive, with each enamel color calling for separate firings between each application of a specific color. The tea caddy bears a pseudo Chinese fret mark in blue to the underside and was produced ca. 1765. Similar pieces from the period are marred by the loss of the caddy lid, this example is complete.
