19th-Century Marble Dust Drawing of Romantic Landscape

A mid-19th century marble dust drawing on paper, also referred to as a sandpaper drawing, of a romantic landscape. Composed of charcoal and applied marble dust, this grisaille work features a couple figures on a boat in the river, surrounded by a hilly landscape and a Medieval structure perched on the hill. The work remains unsigned. Handwritten inscriptions are present to the drawing verso and the mat verso, some of which reads ‘Tessler (Drawing on Sandpaper)’. It is presented under glass, double-matted, and housed in a gold-tone wood frame.
Condition
- some wear in frame includes stains, scratches, and finish loss scattered throughout.
