A Tibetan Buddhist thangka painting on cotton. This piece depicts a yellow Jambhala (Kubera) holding a nakula (mongoose vomiting jewels), seated on a lion, and surrounded by illustrations of kneeling figures in front of a palace. The piece is unsigned and presented with colored silk brocade borders on a silk brocade lining with a flower and dragon motif and flared upper and lower edges.
Condition
- discoloration throughout image; paint worn from image in several areas; snags in yellow silk border along every edge; small holes in ground at center; snags on liner on verso of tapestry; discoloration and water spots throughout verso of painting.
