A two volume deluxe limited first edition signed in black ink by author, Ernest Schwiebert (1931-2005), of Trout, published in New York by E.P. Dutton, 1978. Hardcover blue buckram and accompanying blue buckram-covered slipcase., these two books are number 38/750. Illustrated with printed etchings created by the writer. A small , actual specimen fly and hook placed in a sunken mount are included in the first volume, along with a card from Denver, Colorado.
As noted in the New York Times Obituary of December 13, 2005, Ernest Schwiebert, a world renown expert on all things, ’ piscatorial’ turned his childhood passion into a lifelong hobby. The obituary described the book as ‘His literary pièce de résistance, ’Trout,’ traced the sport to the ancient Greeks and Chinese, then meandered through 1,745 pages covering pretty much every conceivable topic of interest to anglers, from the anatomy of Salmoniform fishes to the idiosyncratic philosophies of those compelled to pursue them’.
