A 1931 stated signed limited edition of H.G. Wells’ The Work, Wealth, and Happiness of Mankind, in two quarto volumes, numbered 197/250 and signed by the author to the edition page. Published by Doubleday Doran of Garden City, New York. The work is a nonfiction exploration of economics and sociology, forming the last part of a trilogy with The Outline of History (1919–1920) and The Science of Life (1929). It is illustrated with two frontispieces and forty-four half-tone plates, as well as eleven two-tone charts, throughout the two volumes. Bound in publisher’s quarter-cloth bindings, with a deep reddish-purple backstrip and light purple paper boards, stamped in gilt, and with applied spine labels. The top page edges are gilded while the other edges are untrimmed.
