An ink drawing on heavy stock paper of an American Western scene by well-listed artist Lorence F. Bjorklund (American; 1911-1978). The image depicts a man standing helplessly as a second figure falls into a pen of ravenous pigs. The drawing is signed to the right center margin and the artist’s estate stamp is visible to the verso. Hand-drawn notes mark the piece. Presented without matting or framing, awaiting your choice of presentation.
Born in Minnesota, Bjorklund was known for his Western genre scenes. Bjorklund earned his first education in art as an apprentice to a mural painter and drawing lessons from his father. In 1927, he received a scholarship to study art at the Pratt Institute. During this time, he illustrated Western genre pulp publications. Throughout his career, his illustrations were published in over 300 books, including some that Bjorklund authored. He is listed in the 1975 book Fifty Great Western Illustrators by Jeff Dykes.
