Antique Washington Desk with Marble-Top Washstand by Williams Folding Bed Co.

Item Details

An unusual, late 19th century, Washington Stand by the Williams Folding Bed Co. The oak stand came from a private railroad coach car of the 1800s. It has a slant front desktop that has been covered with red crushed velvet. The desktop lifts up to reveal a white marble sink with a nickel plated faucet and a rubber drain stopper on a chain. There is a hidden metal-lined oak water reservoir at the back, to supply water for the sink, with a cabinet at the bottom that would have held a bucket to collect the drained water. The unit rests on a scrolled trestle-like base. A nickel plated label on the back of the faucet is engraved with ‘The Washington Stand – Pat. Sep. 18, 1883.’ and ‘Manufactured by the Williams Folding Bed Co. Chicago.’ Please note, this is a very heavy item.
