Early 19th Century Johnson Grandfather Clock
Item Details
An early 19th century Johnson grandfather clock. The clock is circa 1800 and features a walnut and select hardwood and veneer case. The case has an arched bonnet and a burl walnut crest with twist style wood columns and a glass front door. The door displays a hand-painted face with a Medieval soldier on horseback and a colorful landscape design in a palette of blue, brown, red, white and green. The landscape surrounds a white dial with black Roman numerals and gold tone hands with two key arbors. Other features of the clock include a door on the waist flanked by twist style side columns with inlaid blonde wood and walnut burl corner blocks. The door reveals metal cylinder style weights and the clock features a chain driven movement with chimes and the clock has a podium style pedestal with ogee style bracket feet. The clock is marked ‘Johnson’ on the verso of the case.
