Born in Kansas, Margaret Whittemore received a degree at Washburn College then studied graphic arts at the Art Institute of Chicago. Although she worked in oil, she is primarily known for her printmaking, especially her woodblocks. Her work was featured in magazines, newspapers, and books including those she wrote herself such as Historic Kansas: A Centenary Sketchbook (1954). Her work has been exhibited and collected by the Kansas City Art Institute, the Topeka Public Library, and the University of Kansas, among other institutions.
