An 1859 steel engraving on heavy paper after an original painting titled Crossing a Highland Lock by listed British artist Jacob Thompson (1806 – 1879), engraved by Charles Mottram (Britain/United States, 1807 – 1876). This print depicts a beautifully detailed rendering of a group of travelers preparing to cross the water, with majestic mountain peaks visible in the distance. It is housed in a late 19th century frame with cove molding, carved detail and two gold tone lips with a dark wood liner. A chain for hanging is present to the verso. An appraisal from Art Consultant Associates in Shaker Heights, Ohio is included.

Condition
- toning and buckling to print. Vertical discolored streaks across print. Scattered areas of foxing and light accretion throughout. Small tear to left margin. Cracks and stains to finish of gold tone lips of frame and wear to frame finish. One section of backing board is loose and temporarily taped into place. Backing paper is torn.
