Antique Biedermeier Butlers Chest or Commode
Item Details
An antique Biedermeier butlers chest or commode. The chest is made of light colored fruitwood, featuring a rectangular, flat top with an angled, molded edge and straight sides. There is a panel on the front at the top that is fitted with a lock. It folds down to reveal a writing surface, four open compartments and two drawers. The writing surface is painted black, and there are small side panels with spindles. Below are two full-width drawers with hand-dovetailed corners, and they are fitted with round brass keyhole escutcheons and pairs of brass handles. The trim around the bottom is accented with a black painted edge, and it rests on short, straight, square tapered legs. No maker’s mark.
