Antique Chinese Qing Dynasty Tea Bowl with Eight Auspicious Symbols
Item Details
An antique Chinese Qing dynasty (1644-1911) tea bowl. This vessel is decorated with a cobalt underglaze floral motif to the well. The outer body is hand-painted with the eight auspicious symbols, or treasures, derived from Buddhism. The polychrome motifs include: a flaming wheel, conch shell, umbrella, canopy, lotus, vase, a pair of fish, and an endless knot. The piece is accented with a kintsugi style repair to the rim,
which denotes the use of an adhesive mixed with a precious metal, such as gold. It bears a reign mark to the base, likely dated to the Daoguang Period (1820-1850).
